چکیده

The impact of transmit-antenna spacing and signal-to-noiseratio on channel capacity has been measured intensively in a variety of scenarios. When looking at the physical layer throughput of a multiantenna communication system, the behavior over antenna spacing may look completely different, leading to other conclusions regarding the optimal antenna distance. In this paper, we compare —by testbed measurements— the closedloop throughput of a standard compliant 2×2 IEEE 802.16-2004 WiMAX radio link with the unconstrained capacity and the mutual information of the channel. Results are presented for base-station antenna spacings of 0wavelengths (cross polarization) as well as spacings between 0.6wavelengths and 7.7 wavelengths (equal polarization).

Measuring the Closed-Loop Throughput of 2x2 HSDPA over TX Power and TX Antenna Spacing

Mobile network operators demand small base station antennas and high physical layer throughputs. In the downlink, high physical layer throughputs can be achieved by exploiting transmit diversity. Given that the correlation between different propagation paths reduces the achievable throughput, it is commonly conjectured that the greater the transmit antenna spacing, the better the radio link per...

High Throughput of WiMAX MIMO OFDM Including Adaptive Modulation and Coding

WiMAX technology is based on the IEEE 802.16 specification of which IEEE 802.16-2004 and 802.16e amendment are Physical (PHY) layer specifications. IEEE 802.16-2004 currently supports several multiple-antenna options including Space-Time Codes (STC), Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna systems and Adaptive Antenna Systems (AAS). The most recent WiMAX standard (802.16e) supports broadb...

Multiple-Antenna Technology in WiMAX Systems

WiMAX is a wireless technology that provides broadband data at rates over 3 bits/second/Hz. In order to increase the range and reliability of WiMAX systems, the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard supports optional multiple-antenna techniques such as Alamouti Space-Time Coding (STC), Adaptive Antenna Systems (AAS) and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems. In this paper, we focus on techniques th...

Compact triple-band metamaterial inspired monopole antennas

Here we present a comparison analysis on the single loop resonator (SLR) inspired triple-band monopole antennas. Two configurations with rectangular and circular shaped radiation patches are presented. Simultaneously, two feed techniques with coplanar waveguide and microstrip feeds are performed to drive the antennas. And the conventional planar monopole antennas without the SLRs are also analy...

Experimental Evaluation of Adaptive Modulation and Coding in MIMO WiMAX with Limited Feedback

We evaluate the throughput performance of an OFDM WiMAX (IEEE 802.16-2004, Section 8.3) transmission system with adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) by outdoor measurements. The standard compliant AMC utilizes a 3-bit feedback for SISO and Alamouti coded MIMO transmissions. By applying a 6-bit feedback and spatial multiplexing with individual AMC on the two transmit antennas, the data throughp...
